What a fantastic place to spend some time.
We drove to the carpark at the end of the road, and walked up to the look out.
The look out is only a easy five minute walk away.
From the look out you have some great views out over part of the lake.
We then walked down through some beautiful native bush to the lakes edge and spent some time admiring the quietness of the place.
The only sounds that could be herd were from the ducks and geese.
A nice stroll around part of the lake and we ended up at a very nice picnic area.
The picnic area has some very big and interesting Japanese cedar trees.
A short walk back to the carpark from the picnic area. Unfortunately there are no toilets near this picnic area.
The toilets are located further down the road.
Driving back out we noticed a fishing jetty, where you can try your luck at fly fishing although you will need a fresh water fishing license.
Also there are mountain biking trails and horse ridding trails though the forest.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to do the lake circuit walk but will hopefully come back some time.
Stunning ! Quiet place, really lovely to walk or just sit and watch Mount Taranaki.
Gorgeous place! Excellent hiking, paths are well kept and sign posted. Watch out for careless dog owners who don't pick up their dog droppings. We went on a Friday midday, only 3 cars there, and wewe only past one runner. Huge area, very scenic and clean.
Fantastic walk around the entire lake. A leisurely few hours round trip, or be dropped off at the far end and walk the bush, exiting at the entrance. Great views of Mt Taranaki on a clear day, with reflections off the lake in the right …
Just loved this haven of peace & tranquillity. The lake is absolutely beautiful complete with the thousands of ducks & water birds which call it home
Lake Mangamahoe is just absolutely stunning 😍
The lake itself is beautiful and there are some great views from the lookout 👀 …
Lots of walks from the lake , duck feeding and the view of Taranaki are the points I liked
One of the best spots in all of Taranaki, beautiful and serene lake you can drive around, large hiking circuit all the way around the lake and native trees for keen walkers. Ducks, Geese and Swans live here so please be conscious and aware that this place is their home, drive slowly and keep it clean please
Excellent and popular walking track. We got a little confused by the loop track - so ended up having to walk down the road to the southern car park (as the loop takes you to the Northern?) …
Brilliant place from which to see Mount Taranaki in the distance. If you don't want to walk the 6km loop, then you can drive to within a 5 minute walk of the Mount Taranaki lookout point. What an awesome mountain.
